  How many of you have lost your faith on JWN

  just curious, if anyone had lost faith whilst on jwn and do u think it is an honorable experience?..

  Steve2, it's funny that you took it as a loaded question. I actually thought it was a question by someone that did lose their faith and is now without any type of religious faith. I don't think the term "lose your faith" is degrading. Non believers commonly like to say that they have no faith. Then believers get into the tried and untrue "Well you have faith in the sun rising, so you have some sort of faith" argument that we all know does not work.

  However, if someone did have faith before, and now they don't, then they lost it. I personally wouldn't think that saying "I lost my faith and am now an atheist" would necessarily allude to something negative.

  Also, the meaning of a text is given by context. Unfortunately for non trinitarians, the context usually upholds the trinitarian position.

  A third point is that the Bible does actually call Jesus the "beginning of the creation of God" (Rev 3:14) by that still doesn't stop Trinitarians denying it.

  Slimfat, see above. Just because you have a concept of what beginning means in English does not mean that that is what was being spoken of by the Bible writer. The context of Revelation is not speaking of Jesus nature, but instead speaking of His authority over all creatures. That's the problem with JWs. They don't understand hermeneutics, which is vital if you want to understand basic doctrine of scripture. They just don't know how to interpret than to stick with English, and go ONLY off of what the Watchtower has taught them. Even non trinitarians (that are not JWs) know that Rev 3:16 is not speaking of nature, but is speaking of position.

  I heard (only rumor) that there was a local needs in one of my friends hall. He said that the elder said that it was a conscience matter and that someone that was prescribed weed for medicinal use should not be judged.

  That's all I heard. I do not think that there was a letter written about it. Maybe an elder contacted service or legal? Supposedly a lot were excited about the talk... I wonder why...

  I'll jump in among the sharks and say that JWN has strengthened my faith. Reading everything that athesists send my way has given me a perspective that I never had. It's confirmed my belief that God not existing does not make sense in any way. But I LOVE reading and learning about different faiths and non faiths. I'll read anything I can get my hands on now. No fear of that like I had when I was a Dub. I can understand throwing away a Christian faith, but belief in an intelligent designer absolutely doesn't work, and science can't answer the philosophical and spiritual questions that have always been around. (I am saying this about the BELIEF or NON BELIEF, not speaking about individuals nor attacking them).

  JWN has forced me to research in and out of the Bible, and my faith has only been strengthened. I've found it sad that many, not all, have left because of the idea that "If the Watchtower is wrong, then I'm done with a belief in God." After leaving the WT, my understanding of God has changed 100%. I realize that I never knew Him. I wish others got to know and experience first who Christians believe that God is, before leaving and joining the cool kids of atheism.

  So no, I have not lost my faith on JWN. :-)

  Ok, I'm ready for the attacks. I'll make my leave before they begin. :-)

  Also the word "firstborn" in Col 1 does not mean first created. PROTOTOKOS, as you brought out, is not the same as PROTOKTISIS. Prototokos refers to position. There are several passages in the Bible where someone is spoken of as being "firstborn" when they were not actually the first person born. An example that is used by many is the example of Manasseh and Ephraim. Manasseh was born first with Ephraim being the second child. (Gen 41:51,52) However, later it is Ephraim that is spoken of as being first born. (Jer 31:9) This is because "first born" refers to position. The usual definition given is "pre-eminence".

  This is shown in Psalm 89:27 where God says that He would make David the Firstborn. Obviously David was not the first one born to his father. But in regards to position, David would be pre-eminent over everyone in Israel.

  Because Jesus was NOT created. Every "proof text" that JWs use to "prove" that Jesus was created is easily answered when you look at the Greek. Rev 3:16 uses the word "arche" and is translated "beginning" by many translators. He IS the beginning of the creation of God, but this is in reference to His position, status, and authority. Arche means "origin" or "first in position" or "Leader" or "Cause". It's what we get our English word "architect" from.

  When you apply this word "arche", you get a clear picture. Jesus is the Leader over all of creation. Jesus is the ORIGIN over all creation. Jesus was teh architect.

  No, Jesus was not the first created. Col 1:15,16 shows that Jesus exists before ALL THINGS. This would make no sense if Jesus was a created thing. That is why the WT was forced to insert "other" into the text to try and make sense of it.

  Thinking of becoming a JW.

  hi,.

  i am new to here so please be bear with me.. i have always believed in god, but was never baptised, my parents wanted me to make up my own mind religon wise.. i am thinking of becoming a jw and am just needing some advice on how to do this, bible study and jw beliefs.

  also do jw say grace and how.. i am greatful of any help.. thanks.

  Care to comment on how his scriptures were misapplied? I thought it was very clear that the Watchtower has scripturally shown themselves to be false prophets. The scriptures show that we have no need to sit in on a human tribunal where they try and assume God's role in judging us. As far as I can see, this is just another baseless attempt of yours to imply that the scriptures were twisted to suit him. Examples? Nah...you don't have any. Just a bitter JW apologist that is self righteous and really...to be pitied. I feel sorry for you.
